UITSIG ANIMAL RESCUE
The Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre is a Pro Life animal rescue center in the Western Cape, South Africa caring for over 500 animals, these animals were either strays, abandoned, surrendered or neglected.
"Changing lives ONE by ONE"
They receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations, support and good-will from the public and /or corporate companies.
The Centre's mission is to give sanctuary to animals in need ensuring their welfare and wellbeing, and ultimately finding new homes with loving families. Uitsig Animal Rescue Centre is a Pro Life organization with the objective of no euthanasia, except if the animal is suffering and cannot be rehabilitated.
Since opening the numbers have continued to grow and with it so has the plans to accommodate the needs of those in residence. Shelter and care is provided for the abandoned, neglected, stray or those simply lost until a new home can be found. Rehabilitation is of the utmost importance and to ensure that once an animal has been placed it is a match 'made in heaven'.
Kerith Retreat (amongst 7 others) was founded by Pastor Harris and his wife Tilla. The couple saw the need to helping those who could not help themselves. The movement started by supplying meals to the destitute and assisting with finding them any form of employment to uplift their self-esteem. However, being misunderstood and unable to fit into normal society, it became very clear that there was a vast growing need for accommodation and proper care for these people.
Consisting of 44 fabricated houses, formerly used by SA Railways, Kerith retreat is home to 64 adults, majority of which, suffer from schizophrenia and was pushed aside by families. Although they offer long term accommodation and care for psychiatric patients, they follow a strict criteria whereby all residents should be able to do self-care tasks and household chores.
The retreat consist of ablution blocks, a kitchen, dining room, clinic, TV room, workshop and houses for the residents and staff. They supply three meals per day, in some cases all furniture, clothing & toiletries, to ensure a proper living for their residents.
Donations are key to the retreat, as they only have minimum government grants and small contributions from some families to get by.

“Although it was difficult leaving such an amazing place and experience, we made it home safe and sound last week. Carol, we can’t thank you and Aggie enough for all your attention and service over the past couple of months – from the planning stage all the way until we departed South Africa. You all created an unforgettable honeymoon experience and helped us to fall in love with South Africa, its people and cultures.

“We would certainly recommend ATC and chose it again. Given the current experience we would not hesitate to recommend ATC for wherever they say they know well the region. Aggie, thank you so much much again for your flawless preparation, our experience was certainly worth the cost (which we felt was about right). Roman & Family”

“Hi Carol, Many thanks again to you and Aggie for all your hard work in making my vacation in South Africa so memorable. Like my first time in South Africa, it was truly an amazing experience and it was very hard to leave. As mentioned on the call, Aggie´s selection of guide Dr Gustav Greffrath, for the white water rafting was excellent. Clearly, Gustav was very experienced and I felt in safe hands, throughout the 4-5 hour trip, even when I was outside of the boat! The stay at Phinda was just perfect, with sightings of so much more game than my first safari. Rhino tracking on foot was a truly memorable experience”
Aggie, Gabriel and I really really enjoyed our time in South Africa. I want to thank you for your attention and dedication in arranging our trip.”
Dr. Ullrich Heim, Germany.
