The Pilanesberg Game Reserve in the North West Province is only two hours from Johannesburg. It borders the popular Sun City Luxury Casino and Resort and is one of South Africa’s most popular wildlife destinations.

Set in an ancient volcanic crater, this well-stocked reserve has dramatic landscapes supporting a wide variety of plants, birdlife and animals, including the Big Five - elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard and rhino.

Other animals roaming through the reserve include African wild dogs, brown hyenas, giraffe, zebra and a variety of antelope, including the now-rare Sable Antelope. Birding in the Pilanesberg Game Reserve is an exciting and rewarding experience with over three hundred bird species.

The Pilanesberg offers a variety of accommodation ranging from chalets and self-catering to exclusive five-star lodges.  The abundant wildlife in this malaria-free area makes this reserve a popular destination for family travel.
