Unusual Ideas for a Romantic Getaway
Creative couple’s adventures in Southern Africa
Does soaking in a luxury star bath or soaking up a magical sunset cruise with your beloved sound like the metaphorical defibrillator needed to bring your relationship back to life?
All partnerships need a lot of tender loving care, and we were delighted to read a recent article by Tourism Update that focused on some creative couple’s adventures in Southern Africa. So if your flame could do with a-kindling, then inject a bit of va-va-voom into your engines by cuddling close on one of these four getaways.
1. Share a sky bed or a star bath in the wilderness
Sanctuary Baines is an intimate five-suite camp that is constructed on a raised platform above the Boro River in Botswana. A private ‘star bath’ for two can be organised after an evening game drive, when you return to your luxury suite to find a freestanding bath on your lantern-lit deck. To ensure you have complete privacy while you soak in the environmentally-friendly bubbles, canvas screens are also placed around the tub so that you can take your time indulging in this bush bath together.
Once squeaky clean, you can both count the stars while you fall asleep in each other’s arms under the African skies on a four-poster ‘sky bed’. The raised platforms are high enough to keep you safe so that you can sleep soundly in the wilderness with your bushbaby.
2. Awaken your senses on a coffee safari
Nothing helps a couple to connect like a shared experience - especially when that experience is something out of the ordinary. A strong dose of caffeine and a double shot of romance are combined on a private coffee safari in Cape Town, which allows you to lap up the cafe culture in South Africa’s Mother City. You’ll be full beans as you savour the aromas at the city’s top “coffee boutiques for connoisseurs”, and the route will be sure to leave you both buzzing!
3. Splash out in a spa on the Sabie
The best way to ease into a couple’s getaway is by relaxing side-by-side with some spa treatments. So unwind on the Sabie River in Hazyview with full-body massages and a hydrotherapy experience that will cool you down in the Lowveld, while heating up your relationship. Your bodies will never feel better!
4. Take it easy on the Zambezi
Sunsets scream sensuality, so head to the Zambian side of Victoria Falls in Livingstone and take a sunset cruise on the Zambezi River. Enjoy the bucket-list view of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World in the golden light of dusk, then head back to the banks of the river to relax together at your luxury lodge to the sounds of Mosi-Oa-Tunya.
